Organize events yourself!

It is easy. Just send an email to any of the CHOOSE board members with a short description of your event and a budget.

Any kind of event can possibly be organized as a SIG Beer. Past SIG Beers have typically consisted of a 60 minute talk followed by an informal apero, but they could also consist of demos, tutorials, programming sessions, or even a round table discussion over a beer. The only constraint is that the event should be in the interest of CHOOSE members.

The budget for a SIG Beer is normally expected to be under 300 Fr, but this is not a hard constraint. If the budget exceeds 300 Fr, it will need to be approved by the full CHOOSE board. Typical budget items include travel costs for a speaker, snacks and drinks for an apero, dinner for the speaker, the organizer and a couple of guests, and in special cases, hotel costs for the speaker.

When your SIG Beer is approved, you should post an announcement on the CHOOSE mailing list. You are encouraged to adapt this template as appropriate. The CHOOSE Webmaster will adapt this information and post a short description on the CHOOSE web.

Please keep all receipts and send them to the CHOOSE treasurer when your event is over. (Your contact on the CHOOSE board can tell you who the current treasurer is.) If you are organizing an event with a larger budget, special arrangements can be made to have bills paid directly by CHOOSE.

When you hold your event, please announce that it is sponsored by CHOOSE, and encourage any non-members attending to join.

Please keep track of how many people attend your event and pass this on to your contact on the CHOOSE board when it is over. (This information is used to prepare the annual report to the CHOOSE General Assembly.)
